WHY RECALL CRYE?

A small group of us formed when Supervisor Kevin Crye swung the vote that destroyed our voting system and we COULD NOT VOTE.

Republicans, NPP’s, Independents, Democrats and Greens came together to support this effort because of the serious harm Kevin Crye had inflicted on Shasta County.

WHAT YOU CAN DO!

CRYE'S LIES

1. Crye promised to be a fiscal conservative.

INSTEAD, HE SPENT MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON THINGS LIKE FLIGHTS TO VISIT THE PILLOW GUY.

2. Crye said he would prioritize public safety.

INSTEAD, HE FOCUSED ON DISMANTLING A PERFECTLY GOOD VOTING SYSTEM.

3. Crye said he'd be transparent.

INSTEAD, HE HELD SECRET MEETINGS WITH THE PILLOW GUY.

4. Crye said he would ensure that the County didn't get sued.

INSTEAD, HE WAS MORE CONCERNED WITH HIS PERSONAL LIABILITY.

5. Crye has claimed the recall is backed solely by Democrats.

SO FAR 51% OF SIGNATORIES OF THE PETITION TO RECALL ARE REPUBLICANS AND NPPs

THESE ARE JUST A HANDFUL OF CRYE'S MISMANAGEMENT OF OFFICE.

VOTE TO RECALL KEVIN CRYE!

A 'red herring' has no place in Shasta County politics

A red herring is defined as 'something that misleads or distracts from a relevant or important question. It may be either a logical fallacy or a literary device that leads readers or audiences toward a false conclusion.' Today, in Shasta County, Kevin Crye has introduced his own version of 'red herring,' by claiming that the governor of California will appoint a replacement should his recall be successful.

Actually, we the people will vote for a replacement candidate in November.

Crye has tried to divert attention in hopes folks won’t notice that he’s not doing the job he campaigned on, such as dealing with public safety and homelessness. He chose this strategy because votes he has participated in have wasted taxpayers’ money and done nothing to address these issues.

Among the most consequential of these votes was the elimination of our election system/ election vote counting system — the same system that resulted in Crye’s election in 2023.

In a decision to fix something that wasn’t broken, proven in a lawsuit Dominion Voting Systems won in early 2023, Crye had multiple opportunities to make a sound financial choice that would benefit taxpayers.

He also voted on items where he had a clear conflict of interest, another providing unprecedented severance packages totaling over $1 million to new department heads and another suspending impact fees without examining what effect it may have on the budget of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

It’s unfortunate that the current board of supervisors’ majority has politicized nearly every action they take. Further, it’s unfortunate that they proceed based on unverifiable information. They seem to view all decisions through the lens of national politics and proceed based on personal ideology rather than what’s best for our county. They believe only what they want to believe, often ignoring what is before their eyes.

In addition to the foregoing, the overall county budget has increased with nothing positive to show for it. In fact, it doesn’t make sense considering the great number of unfilled positions and resignations which have reduced county staffing.

I urge you to vote yes on the recall, a good first step in restoring stable governance to Shasta County.

Speech given at a Recall Kevin Crye Rally

Mr. Crye, I am a retired Redding Police Department sergeant and United States Coast Guard veteran. Three times I have taken the oath to support and defend the Constitution, and I still hold to that oath.  Throughout my adult life I was a conservative Republican.  Throughout most of my life I have been a member of Evangelical churches, including Bethel and Risen King, one of several local CMA churches which includes – apparently – your own.  I share this to refute the lies you have told about the wide spectrum of people who support your recall.

There are a number of reasons we have to justify your recall.

Here are just five.

Mr. Crye, you and your two allies have wasted outrageous amounts of money on a completely unnecessary new voting system. A decision that was found to be totally unworkable in the real world. Sign: MILLIONS WASTED

Mr. Cyre, you have accepted over a hundred thousand dollars from a vengeful billionaire from Connecticut. This is outside interference in Shasta County decision-making.  You gave away local control when you took that much money.

Sign: OUTSIDE MONEY = NO LOCAL CONTROL

Mr. Crye, we will lose more local control if your scheme for a proposed Charter County passes. The board will gain unprecedented power to appoint new supervisors to vacant seats and perhaps one day to appoint our Registrar of Voters.  This is a power grab and undermines our system of checks and balances.

Sign: CHARTER COUNTY= BOARD CONTROL

Mr. Crye, you have demonstrated blatant conflicts of interest and cronyism in numerous ways.

For example:

  • Voting for Patrick Jones's gun range in light of his in-kind donation to you.

  • Voting to appoint lesser qualified people to the Public Health Officer position and to the Mosquito & Vector Control Board who were both large contributors to you. Sign: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

  • Mr. Crye, you recruited and promoted a person for County Counsel who is your employee’s boyfriend . . . in all of these cases rejecting far more qualified candidates.

  • You have provided your favored appointed officials with outrageous severance packages while snubbing rank-and-file County workers.

Sign: CRONYISM

In the meantime, our most pressing issues – crime, homelessness, addiction – go unaddressed.
